5-Day Bali Honeymoon Itinerary: Seminyak, Ubud, and Uluwatu

· 7 min read Itinerary
Romantic candlelit outdoor dinner overlooking rice terraces in Ubud Bali at sunset

Five days in Bali gives enough time to experience three distinct landscapes — the beach strip of Seminyak, the rice terrace valley of Ubud, and the dramatic clifftops of Uluwatu — without spending half the trip moving. This itinerary is structured for couples who want quality over quantity: fewer transfers, longer stays, and meals worth remembering.

Best months: April–June and September–October. July–August is high season — prices rise 20–30% and popular spots are significantly busier. November–March is wet season (cheaper, greener, afternoon showers).

Day 1: Arrive Seminyak

Arrive at Ngurah Rai International Airport and transfer to Seminyak — pre-book a private driver (IDR 200,000–350,000 as of 2026) or use Grab from outside the arrivals building.

Check-in and afternoon: Recover from travel. Seminyak’s beach is good for a late afternoon walk — calmer than Kuta, with better cafés and fewer hawkers.

Sunset: Ku De Ta beach club (Jl. Laksmana, Seminyak). IDR 400,000 minimum spend per person during prime sunset hours (5–7pm). This is Bali’s most famous sunset venue — arrive by 5:00pm to secure a table facing the water. The cocktail list runs IDR 150,000–280,000 per drink; the food (light plates, sharing dishes) IDR 80,000–250,000.

Dinner: Merah Putih (Jl. Petitenget, Seminyak). Indonesian fine dining in a cathedral-like open-air space. Three courses per person IDR 500,000–900,000. The menu draws on regional Indonesian cuisines — Balinese, Sundanese, Javanese, Padang — at a level of refinement the warungs cannot offer. Book 2–3 days ahead.

Where to Stay in Seminyak

Boutique: The Elysian (Jl. Sari Dewi) — private pool villas from USD 180–250 per night. Quiet compound, central Seminyak location.
Luxury: W Bali – Seminyak — from USD 320 per night. Direct beach access, multiple pools, strong spa.
Ultra-luxury: The Layar (Jl. Petitenget) — private villa compound from USD 500 per night. Each villa has its own pool and butler service.

Day 2: Private Driver to Ubud

Hire a private driver for the day (IDR 500,000–700,000) and travel from Seminyak to Ubud via the scenic route through Mas (woodcarving village) and Celuk (silver jewellery). Total drive time 90 minutes.

Morning stop: Tegallalang Rice Terraces (Jl. Raya Tegallalang). Entry IDR 15,000–20,000. The sweeping terrace views here are among Bali’s most recognised images. Go before 9am to avoid the tour group peak. The Instagram swing setups (IDR 50,000–100,000) can be skipped — the terrace walk itself is the draw.

Afternoon: Pura Tirta Empul — a sacred spring temple with bathing pools (entry IDR 50,000 as of 2026). One of Bali’s most actively used Hindu temples; the purification ritual is conducted daily by locals, not staged for tourists. Dress respectfully (sarong and sash required; available for hire at the gate, IDR 15,000).

Check-in, Ubud: arrive at your Ubud accommodation by 3–4pm.

Where to Stay in Ubud

Boutique: Alaya Resort Ubud (Jl. Hanoman) — from USD 200 per night. Central location, pool rooms available, excellent breakfast.
Luxury: Viceroy Bali (Br. Nagi) — from USD 400 per night. Canyon-edge infinity pool, formal spa, outstanding restaurant (CasCades).
Ultra-luxury: Komaneka at Bisma or COMO Uma Ubud — from USD 500–700 per night. Both have exceptional river valley views.

Dinner: Locavore (Jl. Dewi Sita, Ubud). One of Southeast Asia’s most acclaimed restaurants, run by Dutch-Indonesian chef duo Eelke Plasmeijer and Ray Adriansyah. The tasting menu runs IDR 800,000–1,200,000 per person (food only); wine pairing adds IDR 400,000–700,000 per person. Reservations are essential — book 2–4 weeks ahead through their website.

Day 3: Ubud — Spa and the Campuhan Ridge

This is a deliberate rest day. No temple-hopping, no early starts.

Morning: Campuhan Ridge Walk — a 2-kilometre loop through secondary jungle with elevated views over the Wos River valley. Free, no guide needed. Start by 7:30am before the heat builds. The path is well-marked from the temple at the north end of Jl. Raya Campuhan.

Midday: Lunch at Swept Away (COMO Uma Ubud) — open-air riverside dining on a bamboo platform above the Wos River. Main courses IDR 150,000–350,000; good cocktail list.

Afternoon: Couples spa treatment. Three strong options in Ubud:

  • COMO Shambhala Estate (Br. Begawan, 10 minutes from central Ubud): Bali Massage and Herbal Compress treatment (90 minutes, approximately IDR 900,000–1,200,000 per person as of 2026). The estate setting — river valley jungle, natural spring pools — is exceptional.
  • Maya Ubud Spa (Jl. Gunung Sari): riverside spa pavilions, couples treatments from IDR 700,000–1,000,000 per person (2 hours).
  • Komaneka Spa (for Komaneka guests): in-villa or spa pavilion treatments from IDR 600,000 per person.

Sunset: return to Campuhan Ridge for the 5–6pm golden hour, or watch the sunset from your villa terrace.

Dinner: Aperitif Restaurant (Jl. Kedewatan, Ubud). A more formal evening option — neo-colonial setting, Indonesian-influenced contemporary cuisine. Tasting menus from IDR 900,000 per person. Book ahead.

Day 4: Uluwatu

Transfer from Ubud to Uluwatu — approximately 90 minutes by private driver (IDR 500,000–700,000). The Bukit Peninsula south of Denpasar is Bali’s clifftop surf district: dramatic limestone cliffs, world-class breaks, and quieter beaches than south Bali.

Check-in: arrive by noon, use the afternoon to settle in.

Late afternoon: Pura Luhur Uluwatu — Bali’s most dramatic clifftop temple, perched 70 metres above the Indian Ocean. Entry IDR 50,000 per person as of 2026; sarong hire IDR 15,000. Arrive by 5:00pm to secure seats for the Kecak fire dance performance at sunset (IDR 150,000 per person). The dance runs approximately 45–60 minutes and ends as the sun drops behind the Indian Ocean horizon. This is the most cinematically intense evening experience in Bali.

Note: the monkeys around Uluwatu temple are aggressive and known to steal glasses, phones, and small bags. Keep valuables secured inside bags, not in hands or pockets.

Dinner: Ayana Rock Bar (AYANA Resort, Jimbaran) — drinks at sunset on a platform carved into the cliff face, accessible by funicular (complimentary for guests; IDR 150,000 day-pass for non-guests). For dinner, continue to Kisik Bar and Restaurant at AYANA: seafood grills, Indonesian dishes, main courses IDR 200,000–550,000 per dish.

Where to Stay in Uluwatu

Boutique: Karma Kandara — from USD 200–300 per night. Clifftop villas with private plunge pools; funicular to a private beach.
Luxury: Alila Villas Uluwatu — from USD 450 per night. Arguably the finest contemporary architecture on the island; excellent cliff-edge infinity pool.
Ultra-luxury: AYANA Resort and Spa (Jimbaran/Uluwatu boundary) — from USD 400 per night for ocean-facing rooms; villa suites from USD 700+.

Day 5: Jimbaran Farewell Dinner and Departure

Allow time for a final morning swim or spa session before checking out. Most international flights from Bali depart in the early afternoon or evening — check your departure time and plan the day accordingly.

Farewell dinner: Jimbaran Bay seafood — a long-established tradition in Bali. The bay-facing seafood restaurants along Pantai Kedonganan grill fresh fish, prawns, squid, and lobster over coconut husk fires at tables on the sand. The meal includes rice, vegetables, satay, and soup. Expect IDR 200,000–600,000 per person depending on what you order.

Recommended operator: Menega Café (Jl. Four Seasons, Jimbaran) — one of the oldest and most consistently rated of the Jimbaran bay restaurants. Book a table at the water’s edge for sunset if your flight allows. Seafood platters from IDR 300,000–700,000 per person.

Transfer to Ngurah Rai Airport: 20–40 minutes from Jimbaran depending on traffic. Allow 2.5 hours before departure for check-in and security.

Practical Notes

Currency: withdraw IDR from BCA or BNI ATMs in central Seminyak or Denpasar — better rates and lower fees than airport exchangers. Carry IDR 500,000–1,000,000 in small denominations for drivers, warung meals, and entry fees.

Transport: a private driver for full-day excursions (Ubud day trip, Uluwatu transfer) costs IDR 500,000–700,000. For short in-town trips, Grab is reliable and cheaper than metered taxis.

Dress code: sarongs required at all temples. Bring your own (widely sold for IDR 50,000–80,000 at markets) or hire at the entrance. Shoulders should be covered at temples — a scarf or light layer is sufficient.

Connectivity: Telkomsel Tourist SIM (IDR 80,000–130,000, 30 days, 20–30GB) gives strong 4G coverage across all three zones in this itinerary.
